About Us
Leonard and Company is now owned and operated by Bruce Leonard. The business was started by Bruce’s father, Don Leonard who drove truck for Woodworth and Company. On the side Don purchased a 420 John Deere gas dozer that was farm green. He then purchased a 2010 John Deere and hauled it using a modified flatbed truck. In 1964 he struck out on his own starting Don's Dozing Service doing residential jobs. Don's wife Lorraine was the bookkeeper and kept the books in a shoe box while raising their 4 children.
Bruce was about 12 when he started working in the shop greasing the track rollers and was very happy when they purchased their new 450 which had permanently sealed rollers. Bruce, his brother Bill, and later, Brian used to help out around the shop. Don's first truck was a 1954 Chevy Pickup that was named "Ol Blue" which also became Bruce’s first truck and they still own own it today (see top picture on the left). Bruce took his wife Terry out on their first date in "Ol Blue" in 1978.
Don and his father-n-law, William Wellan, built the shop in 1972. The company officially became Don Leonard & Sons in 1975. In 1981 cousin Randy Wellan came on board. After 24 years, Don sold the business in 1988 to Bruce, Bill, and Brian. Don & Lorraine officially retired and to travel the US with their 5th wheel. Eventually both brothers took their shares of the business and set off for new adventures.
When Bruce took over the business, the "office" was still in his parents back room. Bruce brought the office out of his parents home and put an office in it's current place next to the shop. Bruce got off the machines and began bidding and pursuing more commercial jobs and contracts while bringing technology and computers into the office. Over the next 30 years expanding projects brought on more man power, machines and equipment while staying on top of the industry.
In 2005 Bruce changed the name to Leonard and Company which has become a trusted name in the community and business. At the time Bruce bought the company there were 18 pieces of equipment. Today we have 55+ pieces of equipment.
Now, with 53 years experience, thousands of successful jobs and satisfied customers Leonard and Company has an established reputation of integrity and taking care of business. A trusted name, Leonard and Company, where our motto is “Experience IS the difference.”
